JIMUEL DAVE DAGTA is a composer, music arranger, keyboardist, and bandurria player. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree, major in Composition at the University of the Philippines College of Music in 2016, graduating magna cum laude and class valedictorian. He studied Composition with Prof. Josefino Chino Toledo.

He was one of the top 15 finalists at the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) Choral Composition Competition (2013). In 2015, his composition “Pulso” for Flute and Orchestra was featured in the Musik Underkonstruktion of the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra. The same piece was performed by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, where it won the Yoshiro Irino Composer’s Prize at the 33rd Asian Composers League Festival (2015).

He is the founder of Padayon Rondalla which performed at the International Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival (2015) in Luodong, Taiwan and at Chen Ding Nan’s 10th Death Anniversary Memorial Concert at the Yilan Performing Arts Center. He was the Philippine representative at the 2017 Asean Youth Ensemble in Bangkok, Thailand.

Currently, he is a faculty member at St. Scholastica’s College-Manila and De La Salle College of St. Benilde, teaching Piano Improvisation, Music Theory, Orchestration, Philippine Music, and Composition. He is also a member of AUIT, a vocal chamber ensemble which specialises in performance of contemporary music.

Beyond the Mountains


“Panunumbalik” is a Tagalog term meaning “healing”, “returning”, “restoring”, or “rebuilding”. The piece endeavors to portray Banaue landscape, and Ifugao culture and music by imitating indigenous instruments like lip-valley flute and gangsa (gongs). The composer also wishes to raise global awareness on the restoration of the Banaue Rice Terraces.
